@MotifBot
My first Twitter bot! I made a bot that randomly tweets entries from Thompson's Motif-Index of Folk Literature. It's intended for divination and creative problem solving, along the lines of Oblique Strategies.

I learned after creating this bot that there is another one, called @MythologyBot, that also tweets motifs from the Index. However, the intention of this one is somewhat different. It's more poetic and elegant. The data for @MotifBot is not "clean." The entries have typos, are bare subject headings, and are generally messy. I like the randomness and weirdness this offers.

I intended this project to fit into the many traditions of divination, such as the I Ching and Tarot. The motifs come from a rich vein of unconscious and dreamlike symbolism. Randomizing them is helpful to me for creative, divergent, associative thinking.

I hope it can be helpful to others as well.
