Aporkalypse Revisited [Minecraft gaming]
Over the Christmas holidays, the Minecraft Aporkalypse gang from the MeFightClub community resurrected the Aporkalypse server (the talk of the Metafilter community back in 2011) and placed it online for a special winter reunion. The server is still up and has a crowd of the regulars online every evening.

If you Mefites built there back in 2010-2012, your old digs are probably waiting to be visited. Even if you never saw Aporkalypse, fire up Minecraft and come visit anyway; we'd love to have you on.

The server location is here:

Server Name: Aporkalypse Revisited
Server Address: 65.60.59.137:25585

You can't build until a moderator or admin there approves you (takes anywhere from 1 minute to 1-2 days), but you can explore as long as you like and chat.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

Ooooh. I wonder if my half-built Star Destroyer is still there. Is there still a rendered map of the server or did that get too unwieldy?

I'm on when it's evening in my time zone (GMT+1) and usually log out by the time the US regulars have just logged on. I'd love some more company!

I always wanted to spent more time on the MeFi Minecraft servers but it's a case where there's only so much time in my day, my week, my month. Everyone put so much work into it though. Sigh.

this is just a temporary thing, right?

Oh, everyone was so nice on that server. I'll have to check in later. How long will this be up?

Oh hell yeah! Too late to log on now but I'll definitely be stopping by tomorrow...

Livemap is at http://65.60.59.137:8777.

It was intended to be a temporary server but it's been a month and it's still busy. My plan is to keep it online until people get tired of it, then maybe a couple of months more for good measure.

How did I miss this?! Is there any activity now that it's a month and a half later?

I only just discovered this thread - it's obviously down again. Any news? Has it moved? Will it be back? I long desperately to show my now 10-year old son what the Aporkalypse was like back in the day.

Hi Jimbob. I took it down on April 3 since no one was using it, and it was kind of intended to be just a fun winter reunion rather than a permanent thing.

I was told Pete brought the server up sometime in the past few months, but I don't know the status on that.

I did save the world before it went offline, so if Pete moves on to other things I'll still be able to bring this world back for another reunion in the future.

Thanks, I'd better pay more attention in the future!

The Aporkalypse was a true wonder, and seems to me to be the kind of thing that's nice to just have, n case one wants to visit it, rather that something whose only value is in if it's being used now. Are there any plans to put it back up again, maybe during Coronavirus distancing?

Talk about thread back from the dead. I'd be up for some cube-related shenanigans these days.
