Glowy Clock
We used to have an LCD clock radio that glowed various rainbow colors. I "voted it off the island," so to speak, because it seemed like clock radio was a waste of space in the age of clocks-on-everything, but we missed spacing out while looking at it, so I put together this web substitute.

I forked this neat SVG-based clock on CodePen. I then made changes to add color tweening and to generally tone it down. Here's the source.

On iOS, if you add it to your home screen, when you launch it from that shortcut, it'll have no chrome.

I think you should register the obvious URL and host this there, but I love single serving websites. You may think it a waste of funds, but in another 15 years, after glowyclock.com has been online for a decade and a half and you've had to refine and update your codebase to stay current with web trends and browser compatibilities it'll be a much more interesting project. Do it.

Arrrrgh. I'm really trying to wean myself off of buying domains for everything (gets expensive when you have projects that last more than a year), but I'm wavering now that you bring it up.

Is black one of the colors? There was a segment where I couldn't see the time. Cool either way. :)

I wish this was a screensaver, like Fliqlo.

It's not too bad for a domain if you register them out to the max time, and if you already have hosting space…

Anyway, I just think it would be fun to put a google analytics tag on something like this and let it do nothing but exist. No ads, not about, nothing but glowyclock.com

But this comes from a guy who has about 20 domains.

Literaryhero: It is not! I'll try to flush that out.

koucha: There is a screen saver that will just display a web page!

cjorgensen: Hmm, I guess I've never priced out a domain beyond two years. There is an appealing argument that it would feel be even more simple with a domain like that. Still mulling it over.

A couple changes:

– You start with a random color, not necessarily red.
– Changes are now sloooow, so you can space out to stoner doom or what have you.

Giving up paying for the custom domain in perpetuity. Sorry, guy!
