Adorable Animals, Mildly Amusing Captions
A photo blog of adoptable animals at the Louisiana SPCA shelter, and what I imagine they might have been thinking or doing at the moment I took their picture.

This project is an outgrowth of my work as a volunteer photographer at the shelter, where I take photos for their website to help animals get adopted. The LA/SPCA gave approval for the blog, but I am solely responsible for its content.
Role: photographer, blogger

Yes.

Tell me, are you also imagining names or are these their assigned shelter names? Because I need to get my local shelter in on this Mr. Pibb action.

Thanks! And the names I use are the animals' shelter names, which I have nothing to do with - should anyone ever contact the shelter about a pet they see on my Tumblr, I want them to know who to ask for.

I am so sad that I cannot take all the puppies. All of them. Oh my god. Little swirly tongues. You are doing a good thing and I hope they find homes that will love them forever.

These pictures are so wonderful. I can't stop making ridiculous noises at them all. What a good thing you are doing for these animals - I love this blog!

Tater is hardcore.

I see what you did there ...

hey looking at this again, I wonder if any of them have been adopted - maybe ti would be nice to add a little note saying so once they have found a home?

Most of them (especially in the older pictures) have been adopted - a few animals stay at the shelter for months, but most (especially the dogs) are adopted within a week. It isn't the easiest thing to keep on top of, but I try to use an "adoptable" tag for the animals who are currently available, and then go back and take it off each photo as the animals find homes. But as I don't actually work at the shelter and don't have complete access to their database, I don't always know the status of a particular animal or what's happened when I don't see it around (if it's gotten sick and is in quarantine, or has gone to a foster home for training, or has been adopted, etc.).

TL,DR: if a photo doesn't have an "adoptable" tag, the animal's probably been adopted already.

ah - that makes sense, I should pay more attention. It's a really lovely thing you are doing here.

Thanks for your comments, and for the repeat visits! I certainly don't expect every viewer to attend to the subtleties of my tagging strategy, I'm just trying to make the relevant information available in an unobtrusive way. This is basically my first foray into Tumblring, so I appreciate all suggestions on how to improve - I'm still working on balancing how to promote specific rescue animals while still appealing to a more general internet audience, along with figuring everything else out...

I love how each animal has a firm opinion about something interesting, and isn't just thinking about food or being cute.
