Zombies, Run! A running game and audio adventure for iOS
We've recently released our first original smartphone game, Zombies, Run! It's a running game and audio adventure for iOS (and soon, Android) where you run in the real world while getting story and instructions through your headphones. As you run, you also get chased by zombies (so you need to speed up) and you automatically collect supplies that you can use to grow your home base, Abel Township. Today, we also launched our free 75 page book, The Runner's Guide, with more background on the world of Zombies, Run! plus the script and audio for Mission 1.
Zombies, Run! was crowdfunded via Kickstarter by 3500 backers, contributing $73k in total. Also, we have a 50% sale until Sunday!

Oh, wow. I've been seeing this floating around the 'net; had no idea it was one of Mefi's OwnTM.
Can't wait for the Android version.

I think you told me about this at a meetup once, and I remember thinking it sounded awesome. Can't wait for the Android version!

I'm quite excited to try to this, but most likely will wait till Runkeeper integration. Hoepfully you'll have that done soon.

We're working on it, yep - but you can also have Runkeeper on in the background while playing ZR.

So, uh... Is there a chance, no matter how remote, that this will make its way onto Windows phones at some point?

So I finally, FINALLY got to fire this up today, and wow, so great! It is exactly what I hoped it would be. The biggest problem will be refraining from starting it up at my desk just so I can hear more of the story.

I am downloading it now. A bit poopy that Australians get it at a premium, bloody Apply. I wouldn't mind if you folk got the money, but it's iTunes!
I only heard about it on the podcast that I listened to today so missed the special.
I'm stoked about it. Can't wait to lumber out in my sandshoes and thump down the road away from the zombies tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Yeah, so it took me a long time to psych myself up to try this, but I finally did. I don't run, so this is exciting. Now I don't just go for walks- I go for walks where I suddenly have to run from zombies! It's a lot of fun. I'm really into the story. The one thing I sort of wish is that I could use Pandora with it, because I don't currently keep a bunch of MP3s on my phone, and I don't own the types of cheesy music that are best for working out to- but I can also understand how that would be harder to work with. When I first started it up, I actually forgot I had any MP3s on the phone and was surprised that you got Hugh Laurie to play some atmospheric gritty survivalist piano music for the game. (Yes, it turns out I have his album on my phone.)

It's a bit late, but I'm glad to report that my first run with the app was pretty enjoyable! Only grouse being that I'm so scared of the zombies, I turned off zombie chases, and the GPS didn't kick in until almost half an hour into the run. Probably because I'm in Singapore? Anyway, bought it mainly because of 'yay, something to sort of follow Perplex City!' and I am not disappointed, cos it's great in its own right.
Also, I love the story part of it. At first glance I was a bit apprehensive that it would work, but I was so chastened by the warning to run faster at the end of Mission 1 that I sped up, blisters and all. (I look forward to the blisters I'll get with this.) Thank you very much!
