Return of the Jedi Storyboard Site

I've done my best to collect and catalogue all of the storyboards from the production of 1983's Richard Marquand hit Return of the Jedi, driven by wanting to see what unfinished or cut scenes could be revealed. [more inside]

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser extended essay/review

I wrote 12,000 word piece on a recent trip to Disney's Galactic Starcruiser “Star Wars hotel”, looking at it from a game design/business/marketing perspective, with plenty of photos. My background is in designing ARGs and augmented reality games, so I was very curious to check it out before it closes next month. tl,dr: it’s extremely impressive and consciously uses a lot of ideas and mechanics from RPGs and MMOs! It's been very much misunderstood, and I'm convinced that soon as it closes, it'll be considered a lost classic.

Riffing on Star Wars

I've started a new writing project, Riffing on Star Wars, in which once or twice a week I spontaneously choose a random topic from Star Wars and write about it off the top of my head. So far this has run the gamut from the Hutts to Admiral Thrawn. My goal is to broaden my ability to discern potential writing topics for not just Star Wars, but other topics, and simply exercise my writing ability. See below for links to the first ten riffs! Women in Today's Star Wars

A few weeks ago I decided to start a review of the role and place of women in Disney's Star Wars franchise through various mediums, television, cinematic, novels and comic books. It became surprisingly clear that the decision to make Felicity Jones' character the lead in Rogue One was not just a follow up on Rey's prominent position in The Force Awakens, but an overwhelming trend across every medium to feature many strong female characters in the Star Wars universe.

Brown's Review of Star Wars and Stuff

Brown's Review began as a way to avoid posting excessively long comments in Fanfare, but very quickly became a site where I reviewed episodes of shows (Avatar and Star Wars). It then expanded to include short essays and thoughts on Star Wars, as well as book and comic book reviews, too. [more inside]

His daughter is a Jedi. She's missing. He's dead. And the Star Wars Universe is real. The Padawan Project.

Officially, this is all fiction, but Thomas would insist otherwise. Read his story. Examine these drawings by his daughter Mercy (who he claims has been missing for months.) Can anyone help figure out where she is?

Nobody puts R2 in the corner

A little mashup for May the 4th. Uncanny how well the audio (ALL from Dirty Dancing) syncs up with the final scene from episode IV!

How to make a hacked LED Pez Menorah

I've been making these for a few years now, and since people occasionally ask me how to make them I decided to document the process. [more inside]

Shoot the Rancors!

Shoot the Rancors! is a retro arcade-style game implemented in pure CSS — no Flash or Javascript — as an exercise to see how far CSS can be stretched and abused. Players proceed through levels of shooting moving Rancors (from the Star Wars films), with all user interaction, transitions, animations, and level progressions implemented in HTML and CSS3. It should work cross-platform on modern desktop browsers.

The Electric Lightsaber Orchestra

My friend Matthew and I started coming up with music acts that ought to exist in the Star Wars universe. Before you know it, we had an entire imaginary music festival. And a poster. And a domain to host the poster. I think we got a little carried away. Anyway, if you've ever dreamed of seeing Darth Cab for Cutie share a stage with Kessel Run-DMC, then Tatunes is the festival for you.
