Finger.Farm: Advanced Finger Hosting
Originally conceived as a way to get a status report on someone or something, the Finger Protocol aka RFC-742, has been around since the late 70s. Even today, the capability to finger lies dormant in every major OS.

Happy Birthday To You free stock music
The famous song has been out of copyright since 2017, so I commissioned a musician to produce 20 different versions ranging from sensible to silly. You can download high-quality WAVs under a CC0/public domain license to freely use in absolutely anything.

Rook Trader, an interesting and occasionally alarming internet game
A game where you play as a bird, or possibly as a chess piece, or somehow both. You want shiny and warm things for your nest. Fly to other nests and negotiate trades for your existing shiny and warm things. Accrue wealth. Crash the economy for fun and profit.

Chip64: Chip synth for Reason
Hey there! I make Rack Extensions for Reason, a music-making program from Propellerhead Software. (Rack Extensions are plug-ins for Reason, sort of like VSTs that you'd use for other DAWs.) I've made 10 so far. My latest is Chip64, an emulation of audio chips from vintage computers and video game consoles. There are some audio examples too.

Dragondot 2 - sidescrolling circular dragony action!
I've recently completed my first Unity game, and I'm pretty proud of it. Much like the original, Dragondot 2 features a heroic circular dragon defending her territory from encroaching monsters, collecting gold to level up and gain new powers, and protecting/tolerating/eating her loyal kobold followers. The game features a diverse cast of foes, including four distinctive and challenging boss fights which will test your mastery of all your draconic combat abilities. There's a free demo built right into the website, and if you try it and want more the full game is only $3.

Let's build a browser engine!
I work for Mozilla as a web browser developer. I've found that it's hard to learn the inner workings of a browser, so I started building a β€œtoy” HTML/CSS rendering engine designed to be easy to understand and modify. This is the first in a series of articles that will explain the code I wrote, and also walk you through the process of writing your own toy rendering engine from scratch.

30 days of watches
I'm writing a new watch face every day for a month to try some more creative programming ideas on the inPulse wrist-watch. So far I've completed 21 days and am working on clock number twenty two this morning.

Oregonians for a State Bank
How can we help the economy? By helping small businesses. Even Ben Bernanke admitted that community banks, not big banks, have stepped up their lending to small businesses since the financial crash. North Dakota has had a solution for this since 1919: it uses its tax reserves to extend lending to community banks. It's been working quite well. There's plenty of evidence that it would work elsewhere. Now, Oregon wants in on the action.

Melodic Expectation
Every week day, I post a link and a little write-up to a free album, single, or EP. By free, I mean a recording posted by the artist or their label that is available for instant download, pay-what-you-want download, or we'll-email-you-a-link download. (I research enough to be sure the download is legitimate and working at time of post.) Genres are all over the place but include electronic, ambient, indie rock, pop, chiptune, etc. Want to fill your mp3-playing-device for free? Do it here.
