Film Addict
In response to one of those stupid Facebook note memes, I've made a page where it's easy to show how you are The Best at watching movies. How many of the top 250 movies have you watched? Why hasn't your co-worker seen The Godfather, what the hell is his problem?

One Two Fiver - a writer's warm-up
One Two Fiver is a simple tool for warming up your writing muscles. It is based on a strategy I developed to overcome my own writing inertia. It relies on a progressively increasing word count that helps you make the transition from staring at the screen to writing. The interface is inspired by feature-free text-editors such as Q10 and WriteRoom, and is designed to be non-distracting. You will need javascript turned on to get the full effect.

Public Radio Podcasts
NPR is a treasure trove of great audio content but most of it is not accessible via a podcast feed. This site uses the NPR API to construct proper podcast feeds for their shows that don't current have feeds (e.g. Morning Edition, All Things Considered) as well as per reporter and topic based feeds. Enjoy (and try to look beyond my comically bad web design)...

The Money Meltdown
After much digging, I still couldn't find a site that clearly and concisely pointed me to good information on our financial crisis. So I've attempted to make one.

A Winner Is Me!
After a lot of encouragement from fellow MeFites about writing more, I went and started up a fiction blog. Each week I'll give the untold story behind some minor news item, do some Monday morning quarterbacking on some bit of popular fiction, or reveal a secret history you might not be aware of because I just made it up.

Symmetry explorer
Here's a little project I've been working on this week. It grabs photos from Flickr on any subject you like (e.g. kittens, or other fluffy things) and then presents them as pairs of mirrored halves. (If that makes no sense now, it will when you vist the site! :-) ) The results can end up quite weird and strange. :-) Here are a few of my favourites... (Thin/Fat cat) / (Fluffy dog thing) / (Seen my head(s)?)

The Life Less Traveled: How Ordinary People Do Extraordinary Things…And How You Can, Too!
I meet a lot of people who have done some really amazing things, the kind of things that make you say "Wow, I want to do that, too!" So, I thought it would be fun to interview people who dared to take a chance and do something cool (like leave their jobs to travel for a year, pick up an unusual hobby, start their own business, etc.) and share these interviews via a website for all to enjoy. Thus was born The Life Less Traveled. The goal of each interview is to capture how each interviewee committed to pursuing their idea (take that, naysayers!) and the benefits they reaped from doing so, perhaps inspiring readers to go after their own crazy dreams. Each interview is split into 4 sections: conception, implementation, reflection, advice.

Tarot In Plain Sight
After many discussions about the Tarot back in my hermitosis days, I've made my own site. Arcanalogue gathers all the most evocative and inspiring things that I find online (mostly MetaFilter, of course) and re-interprets them through the centuries-old eyes of the Major and Minor Arcana.

Gooder Than Hell!
"Gooder than hell!" is one of my catch-phrases on my morning radio show, so it was inevitable that I registered the domain - then, inevitable that I use it to extol the virtues of stuff that turns me on. Stuff that is gooder than hell. Recent entries include Skyline cheese coneys, Swamp Thing, Eric Johnson, and girls with smoky eye.

The Hole in the Wall on Top Shelf!
My surrealistic cat story "The Hole in the Wall" (part of my Year in Comics project) is now being serialized by Top Shelf Comics as part of their new Webcomics section. Thrill to the pen & ink & watercolors adventures of two cats exploring a mysterious and dangerous underground landscape! More comics like this will be posted there depending on the popularity of this one.

Fruit Slinger: Behind the scenes at the orchard and the farmers market
For two summers I've worked for an heirloom fruit orchard, mostly at Chicago farmers markets, but also on the farm in Southwestern Michigan. Back when I was a market customer, I always asked myself what it would be like to work on the other side of the table. So last season I decided to keep a blog and tell the story. (The short answer: difficult but fun, with incredible quantities of free fruit.) In the run-up to the start of market season next week, I'm posting a selection of entries from last year. Next week, the markets start up and the blog will begin another season.

HURF DURF METAFILTER ANALYZER
I've spent the last few days conducting a comprehensive review, and constructing an annotated index, of the use of variations of the phrase "hurf durf" on Metafilter. The index covers 357 separate comments (and 10 posts) on various parts of the site, in chronological order.

San Francisco bicycle route planner
This Yahoo maps mashup will calculate the best route by bicycle between any two addresses/intersections in San Francisco. It takes elevation and bike lanes into account. Bug reports / suggestions are welcome. I've only tested it on IE / Firefox for Windows thus far.
