I'm a recent transplant to Bellingham, Washington. In addition to rain and deer, we have lots of diners. I have decided to eat at and review each one based on the following criteria: Vibe, Song Heard, Coffee, Did the yolk pop?, Can I sit and read a while?, and Price. MFK Fisher's 'How to Cook a Wolf' was a masterpiece of food writing that explored the time of food rations during WW2 (related, related). We set out create a photo series that would capture the tone and atmosphere of the book and to explore that kind of hunger - going from comfortable fulfillment to a forced cutting back. Photographed recipes include sardine pie, tomato soup cake, chicken foot soup, and ladyslipper tea, along with moldy cheese, pigeons, and frogs. Delicious. FT Marinetti's 1932 'Futurist Cookbook' was one big practical joke filled with bizarre dinners composed of even more bizarre recipes. The photographer, prop stylist, and food stylist all set out to recreate the not just the dishes but also the feel of the cookbook and just how radical it was at the time.
