The Daily Brief -- News as Information
A reboot of a project we ran from 1995 to 2000, the Daily Brief is a news summary intended to provide our readers with unbiased, no-agenda, clear, and timely information that is needed to maintain essential awareness of important events and information from around the world. Maybe MeFi needs a News link up there in the header where the Daily Brief can be repurposed for intelligent ingestion and commentary?
MISSION
Our mission at the Daily Brief is to provide our readers with unbiased, no-agenda, clear, and timely information that is needed to maintain essential awareness of important events and information from around the world amidst the undifferentiated flood of rumor, propaganda, gossip, fact, assertion, and allegation that much of the news and media establishment now produces.
We do this by constantly gathering and evaluating current events information and sources from around the world for reliability, scope, bias, timeliness, and relevance, and then summarizing the information gathered so that only the essential facts are presented to our readers. In short, we operate more as an intelligence service than a news or media organization.
At the same time, we recognize both the desire and need to dig deeper into stories of import and interest. While providing this more in-depth coverage and analysis is not our role here at the Daily Brief, we work to facilitate readers' access to a broad range of coverage by providing links with almost every story to listings of related stories by more traditional journalistic and news outlets.
HISTORY
We originally published the Daily Brief under the umbrella of Intelligent Network Concepts from 1995 to 2000, reaching a high of about 35,000 daily readers before financial exigencies required our relinquishing the project and leading us into successful corporate and educational careers. (Remnants of those early Daily Brief days are still available on the Internet Archive.)
Over the years we discussed the project – what was right about it; what was wrong; how could we have monetized it to prevent closing it down; how might we bring it back?
Fast-forward to early 2022, when we found ourselves in a world in which a) we were at a point in life where reconstituting the Daily Brief was actually viable, and b) the world was in greater need than ever of news as information, not as sensationalism, commentary, assertion, opinion, clickbait, or propaganda.
We're still finding our way with this new version of the Daily Brief and invite you to subscribe for free to join us in this journey and mission toward a better informed world.
