Big Bad Bosses - Power Overwhelming
Watch out! Listen! BAD GUYS FROM VIDEO GAMES somehow joined up to form a 90s boy band. I just wrote, composed, arranged, and produced their entire debut album. In Big Bad Bosses - Power Overwhelming, caricatures of Bowser, Ganondorf, Sephiroth, and Dr. Eggman sing honest, soulful songs about how even their terrifying fury can't protect them from the big questions in life. It's been #1 on the iTunes comedy charts for a week, and I couldn't wait to post it to MeFi Projects!
I can't believe I am able to type this sentence: We are currently selling a shitload of copies of an album in which Ganondorf sings a totally legit 90s R&B slow-jam with ornate six-part harmonies about how he wants to gently seduce Link and get with him.
Starting a boy band about video game villains (seriously I don't even get it myself, this is madness) was for years the back-burner dream of Jirard "The Completionist" Khalil, who hosts a popular YouTube show with playthroughs and commentary on video games. Feeling creatively stifled by commenting on other people's creative work all day, he finally got this thing going a few months ago, called in 3 other well-known YouTube people to form the band, and I got right to work on the music.
If anyone follows video game YouTube culture, you may recognize the name Egoraptor (Arin Hanson) of the Game Grumps; he's an old friend of mine who has a similar fan-turned-professional origin story, and with his band Starbomb, a similar musical journey as well. This is sort of our take on that approach -- but instead of ribald commentary on gaming culture and tropes, we went with more of a melt-your-panties/boxers R. Kelly slow jam approach, with more subtext and less in-your-face humor.
This is the best moment of my life so far, because I finally got to direct an ambitious project and it's a success by all metrics, and I feel like that's something that fits on MeFi Projects! I hope you enjoy it, and please send it to all the gamers in your life. Happy New Year!

Super cool! How is it that so many youtubers are great at singing and voice acting?
