A new unofficial website for Vernon, Vermont
In 2014, the state of Vermont passed an updated Open Meetings law that required, among other things, that towns with official websites post minutes of board and committee meetings within 5 calendar days. While most towns have no problem with that (the minutes are required to be available in 5 days at the Clerk's office, anyway), some of them decided to turn off their website entirely rather than comply — including my home town, Vernon. Unofficial websites are now popping up in some of these towns, and with a co-conspirator I've just launched this one for Vernon.

It's on a WordPress template called TownPress. We have plans to add a good deal more material including more historical materials, "how-to's" (get a dog license, burn permit, appeal your taxes, etc.), descriptions of what the various boards, committees and officers do, more documents (ordinances, town plan, town report, tax rolls, etc.), maps, and things to do (hike the town forest, paddle in the Connecticut River, etc.)

My God, that is some incredibly childish behavior on the part of town officials. Thanks for filling the gap.
