A One-PDF History of European Socialism and Communism
Some friends and I compiled a 500-page PDF that does the following (from the Introduction): "We present here a history of twentieth-century communism through primary sources, divided into fourteen chapters arranged in chronological order. Each chapter deals with a historical moment or theoretical debate, and contains an amount of reading appropriate for one week’s time. We hope that this reader will provide the foundation for seminars and reading groups."

We felt that this was needed for several reasons (much of this is explained in the Introduction). Left history is typically not taught in academia, so people have to find it elsewhere. This history can be found within either 1) sectarian political groups which don't really provide a comprehensive view of Left history so much as teach the segments that forward their own positions or 2) on the Internet by browsing sites like the Marxists Internet Archive, but this material is voluminous and it can be difficult to know which material is significant. At a time in which more people are questioning capitalism than in the recent past (because of the Great Recession, Occupy, etc.), we thought this history ought to be better known.

The direct link to the PDF is here.

Hopefully this will be the first of several readers. Stay tuned!
