Related: copyscape checks the site you pick against other sites online.

Tried copyscape, looks very interesting, but not free!

We have been asked to do a Canadian/US/Finnish/Dutch/German/Australian/... version of the site by people emailing in!

Does anyone have any thoughts on organisations in these or other countries who would fund the development of a site for that country?

The funding for the UK version came from charitable donations to the Media Standards Trust.

Agreed: Churnalism does more to evaluate the matches in very intuitive ways, but it seems copyscape has a broader scope. Different tools for different purposes.

As for funding: The Knight Foundation is focused on advancing quality journalism, funding major projects such as ProPublica.

Lazy wiki category link: Journalism organizations, which includes links to specific organizations and area-specific sub-categories (example: the American sub-category includes the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation).

For the US, perhaps Media Matters?
