City of Roses is an epic fantasy serial zine set rather firmly in Portland, Oregon. It’s also available online, for free.
Each novelette-sized installment is best thought of as an episode of a tightly arced television show. The first nine tell a reasonably unified story with an emotional climax; to continue the television show analogy, we’ve just had the big episode at the end of November sweeps; the end of Act I of the season’s big arc. —No. 10 premieres online on Monday, August 23rd, and will be doled out over the next two weeks; no. 11 follows quickly on its heels.
What’s it about? Well. It’s what happens when Jo Maguire, a highly strung, underemployed telemarketer, meets Ysabel, a princess of unspecified pedigree. —The elevator pitch; the table of contents; the beginning.
