Parody "I'm Voting Tea Party" Shirts
The Tea Party might have a quasi-mainstream official platform, but it also seems to be a magnet for far right loonies, angry racists, borderline psychotics and those that are simply grossly misinformed. These shirts are for those fringe nutjobs that make the Tea Party rallies so much fun to read about. "Obama is right handed, just like Hitler. That's why I'm voting tea Party!"

Voted for "Obama doesn't realize fire departments are socialism"

I hate to break it to you because this is a good idea, but Obama is a lefty (not sure about Hitler).

These are great! Though you might get a few tea-baggers actually buying them.

desjardins Yeah, I know. I checked on that after thinking of the design, and was a bit disappointed to find out he was a lefty. But the more I thought about it the more I felt it works better this way, I mean the folks I'm trying to lampoon make being grossly misinformed an art form.

I had an item in the FAQ about it, but even so you are the fifth person to point that out today, so I added a note to the page to make it clear that's part of the joke.

Maybe you need to do one playing on the whole left handed/sinister thing now?

I like the designs. I would be more apt to wear something like this if it didn't use "Obama" as a synonym for "liberal" at this late date. The one implying Obama fully supports gay rights seem particularly unreflective of reality.

I remember back when Tim Robbins did "Bob Roberts" and people were asking why he wouldn't release the soundtrack, which was dead-on satire and not bad musically besides, and he said that he could easily foresee hearing it played by people completely unaware that it was supposed to be a joke.

Hm.

There are conservatives who don't realise Colbert is satire, so that sounds logical.

Most of these are really good, but I think the humor would be lost on a lot of people by at least a couple of the shirts. Then again, I live in Texas, so I'm thinking a lot of people would agree with the sentiments on a few of the shirts.

I prefer the absolutely ridiculous ("won't let me hunt the homeless for sport") to the borderline ("wants the government to take over social security") just because I feel like there might be actual tea partiers who believe in the latter; I would hate to wear that T-Shirt and assume that I am a real Tea Party member, whereas with the hunting T-shirt I can't imagine anyone, anywhere could take that for a real sentiment.
