Historical Mystery Novel: The Missing Floor
The Missing Floor, out April 8 from Oliver-Heber Books is the second in The Skyline Murder Mystery series featuring Alan Priest and Lorraine Marquette.

Manhattan, 1928. When Alan Priest, reporter for the New York World, discovers a body at the demolition site for the new Chrysler Building, both his and his wife Lorraine's lives are thrown into turmoil. Can they navigate the worlds of vicious mobsters, corrupt police, and Broadway stars to find the killer?

It has a great cover! Composed by Dar Albert at Wicked Smart Designs.

Part of the fun are the real-life characters, including the gangsters Arnold Rothstein, Legs Diamond, and Humpty Jackson. Humpty Jackson has a particularly remarkable story. A hunchback who quoted classic literature, he ruled his gang from his throne: a gravestone in an abandoned cemetery. He eventually went straight and opened a pet store.

Broadway stars including Mae West and the Marx Brothers have prominent roles. New York's drag scene serves as part of the backdrop.

The vibe is Hammett, a la The Thin Man: snappy "old-Hollywood" dialogue and an undercurrent of humor.
