Life during hyperinflation
The black market Snickers index. Change given in chewing gum. A party game where, if you guess how many rubles are in the jar, you win a jelly bean. And oh yeah, non-candy-related mayhem and chaos. What happened in Russia when communism collapsed and the ruble became worthless? How did life change, and how did people survive? I'm blogging about the time I spent studying and working in Moscow in 1991 and 1993 because I think it is a story that has resonance today. I'm posting a chapter a week. Hope you enjoy.
