She Looks Like Sunday Comics: Watching The Brenda Starr movie (1989)
Josh Fruhlinger of the Comics Curmudgeon and I sat down and watched the nearly unreleased Brenda Starr movie adaptation and talk about how it tackles camp, gender performance, romantic fantasy, and crazy shoulder-pads

Metafilter Is A Land Of Contrast
The exports of Metafilter are numerous in amount. One thing they export is Simpsons quotes, or as the Indians call it, “memes”. Another famous Indian was “Crazy Horse”. In conclusion, Metafilter is a land of contrast. Thank you.

The Measure - a typesetting / design contest
Each month, a public domain work is offered, and anyone who wants to enter takes the first chapter and designs / typesets it. The winner then gets to pick the following month's title. It's low-key, and fun. To kick it off: Dracula!

Manyland, a browser-based 2d universe we all draw together
In infinite sandbox MMO Manyland, a world with no pre-set goals, what you draw becomes real and can be placed... so we all invent the universe pixel by pixel. Manyland is using HTML5 JS/ Canvas to display the world, and chat is real-time-as-you-type. There's over 9 million blocks placed so far, and a while ago we added a scripting language so you can add logic to blocks. This is a labor of love and we've now worked on it for over 2 years, and the community has done amazing things.

Rogue on a hexagonal grid -- reimagined
Rogue is the original roguelike game. I made the java applet version of it in 1997 here. I wrote hexagonal rogue a few years later.

Dragondot 2 - sidescrolling circular dragony action!
I've recently completed my first Unity game, and I'm pretty proud of it. Much like the original, Dragondot 2 features a heroic circular dragon defending her territory from encroaching monsters, collecting gold to level up and gain new powers, and protecting/tolerating/eating her loyal kobold followers. The game features a diverse cast of foes, including four distinctive and challenging boss fights which will test your mastery of all your draconic combat abilities. There's a free demo built right into the website, and if you try it and want more the full game is only $3.

Back Tang Wiesenfeld text generation
Markov chain-style text generation that conforms to Zipf's law. Very spiffy.

How Not To Be Wrong
After three years of work, my book HOW NOT TO BE WRONG: THE POWER OF MATHEMATICAL THINKING comes out today from Penguin Press! It's about math. Also: baseball, Reaganomics, daring lottery schemes, Voltaire, the replicability crisis in psychology, Italian Renaissance painting, artificial languages, the development of non-Euclidean geometry, the coming obesity apocalypse, Antonin Scalia’s views on crime and punishment, the psychology of slime molds, packing 24-dimensional spheres, what Facebook can and can’t figure out about you, the invention of calculus, and the existence of God. The book is available at Amazon, Indiebound, Waterstones, and (I hope!) your local bookstore. MetaFilter has been a fantastically useful resource for me in putting this together; partly because I can use Ask for my questions about statistical significance in different languages and stockpicking scams, but more importantly because I've learned so much about how to write about math for non-mathematicians from writing about math on MetaFilter!

Regret Labs science podcast
Did you study hard in science class? Neither did comics Aric and Levi. Regret Labs is their attempt to make up for lost time. In each episode they attempt to explain a scientific concept and then invite a guest expert to join them and tell them how very wrong they are.

The Disintegrator
The disintegrator lets you select any valid audio file from your library (MP3, wav etc) which is supported by your browser. Once you click play the distortion level continually increases until you're left with a beautifully distorted cacophony!

Finnegans Sleep
I took the first few paragraphs from the first ten chapters of Finnegans Wake, printed them onto strips of paper, then punched out the vowels (always Y!) and ran the cards through a punchcard music box player mounted on the wall in my bathroom.

Airships, a dieselpunk ship-building RTS
A real-time strategy game where you design airships and then fight with them. The aim is to have pretty chaotic explodey fights and interesting ship design choices. I've been working on this since October and just released an "early access" version.

Egress Methods
Paul Simon claimed that there must be fifty ways to leave your lover, but in his famous song he named far fewer than that. Egress Methods, a twitter bot, fulfills the promise that Mr. Simon could not—and then some—tweeting a randomly generated formula for lover-leaving every few hours, from now into eternity.
