Eat Everywhere (smartphone app)
I'm part of a team that just released a unique, pretty amazing food app (iOS and Android). It's called Eat Everywhere, created by Chowhound founder Jim Leff (though tons of us worked on it). It covers virtually every cuisine, offering pragmatic, quick, witty advice on how and what to order, and experience things like an insider. Great while traveling, as well as for eating in ethnic restaurants near home. Great for newbies who've always hesitated about strolling into the local Jamaican take-out, but also great for filling gaps for experts (also: calligraphs to show waiters in Chinese regional restaurants, etc. etc.). Here's Leff's launching statement, and the app's web page is linked above.

Art by Josh Millard
I've been painting a lot lately, exploring in particular mathematical themes and especially variations on the Menger sponge. I'm proud of the progress I've made, and have built a simple site to show off my finished work: Art by Josh Millard.

I've also been writing about art process stuff on my blog, e.g. a step-by-step document of the execution of yesterday's new painting, Five Concentric Wireframe Cubes.

One Two Fiver - a writer's warm-up
One Two Fiver is a simple tool for warming up your writing muscles. It is based on a strategy I developed to overcome my own writing inertia. It relies on a progressively increasing word count that helps you make the transition from staring at the screen to writing. The interface is inspired by feature-free text-editors such as Q10 and WriteRoom, and is designed to be non-distracting. You will need javascript turned on to get the full effect.

Jewish cemeteries in Szeged and Chernowitz
Not a "project" so much as a set of photos to show the neglect of a couple of Jewish cemeteries in once vibrant cities of Jewish culture . . . Szeged, Hungary and Chernowitz, Ukraine.

Ivy League Elitists
In the Palin and Pancakes thread, Miko had many great posts, including one that exposed the hypocrisy of calling liberals "Ivy League Elitists," since so many conservatives are actually from Ivy League Schools. Several people said that this post would be a good meme, so I grabbed the domains and set it up.

BeyondHillary.com: Why Hillary supporters should back Obama
This website is primarily targeted at Hillary supporters who are considering voting for McCain/Palin. We compare Clinton's platform with Obama's and McCain's, including sources so that you can check for yourself where they stand on the issues.

Interview Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin's interviews sounded like the kind of gibberish one can generate with Markov chains. Markov chains can be used to synthesize new text from some corpus. InterviewPalin.com uses her interview transcripts to generate new interview question answers. It's a lot of fun, and if you find a good one, you can save it for your friends!

Barack Obama iPhone Application
As part of a small volunteer team of folks we released the official Barack Obama iPhone app today. To go from first line of code to shipping took just under 3 weeks. We had a team of 10 developers (only 3 coders). The app has (obviously) been pretty well received so far, despite a small bug that causes it to crash for most of Pittsburgh. You can read a bit about my role as Lead Developer on my blog: toxicsoftware Raven Zachary was the primary project leader and wrote up a much better post.

HURF DURF METAFILTER ANALYZER
I've spent the last few days conducting a comprehensive review, and constructing an annotated index, of the use of variations of the phrase "hurf durf" on Metafilter. The index covers 357 separate comments (and 10 posts) on various parts of the site, in chronological order.

3 Days Later: Jesus Christ Zombie Lord
The folks at DNR Productions and Clay Robeson Creative (that's me) have set out to create the world's first (we hope) Zombie Rock Opera. A song for song parody of Jesus Christ Superstar, 3 Days Later: Jesus Christ Zombie Lord take the "Zombie Jesus" thing to a whole new level. At this point, we've shot a teaser for what we want to produce in order to try to raise some funding to shoot the entire movie this summer. But of course, no studio in their right mind would touch this with a 100 foot pole, so we have to self finance by pan handling on the internets. So go watch the teaser. If you like it, watch the LONG version of the teaser. If we still haven't made you want to hunt us down and kill us, tell your friends, and consider giving us a dollar so we can bring this baby to life.... er back to life?

Layer Tennis
From the ashes of Coudal Partners' Photoshop Tennis rises Layer Tennis. The same basic gameplay: Two designers or artists are on the court; one serves up an image, the other responds, building off of what he/she was given, back and forth until 10 images are completed. The whole thing is accompanied by play-by-play commentary, with a forum for audience conversation. Runs every Friday at 2pm Central / 3pm Eastern / 8pm GMT through the end of the year (and maybe beyond).
(coudal is the creator on this; I'm helping out with commentary and moderation.)

Antitechnologos
From the artist: The majority of the materials that make up Antitechnologos jewelry have their intended use in a different industry: electronics, robotics, machinery, etc. The intrigue in using these sorts of materials is at once philosophical, aesthetic, and pragmatic.

I was lucky enough to get to make this site for a jewelry making friend of mine. Like the proximity to which her pieces bring a user to technological components, I tried to craft interaction that brings the user closer to the site's functionality. I hope the community enjoys!

24-Hour International Blogathon
After a two-year hiatus, I'm finally back at the helm of the Blogathon. When we began in 2001, we found ourselves constantly explaining what exactly it was that we did. Now there are blogathons everywhere. The concept is simple: choose a charity, collect sponsorships, and on July 29, beginning at 6am Pacific, update your blog every 30 minutes for 24 hours. Signups opened today. The site is all-new, and we'll be adding more snazzy features as the date draws closer. Stay up late, make a difference.
