Instrument-a-day
Every year I spend the month of February making a new musical instrument (or vaguely musical-instrument-like-thing) every day of the month. I'm up to Day 7 of Year 5. I document each instrument on the blog, and often try to share all the construction details, plans, and so forth. The instruments-a-day range in ambition from banging a trash can with a stick to a complete working violin, depending on the time, energy, and inspiration I have each day. Some of the things I've made have been fun for a few days; some are complete garbage; and some have actually been used in performances around the world, by me and by real musicians! Although the blog posts often have more details, the flickr collection is a nice way to get an overview of the project.

Fifty-two songs, Fifty-two stories
Every week in 2012 I'm going to pick a song, at random or by request, post the video for that song, and write a short story inspired by it.

Before The Movie Begins
"On leaving the theater, you will be assaulted by baseball-bat-wielding ushers, who will pummel your skull until you forget what you have seen. Any remaining memories are yours to keep and enjoy." I wrote the Shouts & Murmurs in this week's New Yorker. It's a parody of those infernal anti-piracy announcements.

Play SPENT: Can you make it through the month?
My agency created this game for a local poverty services non-profit. Too many people assume that being poor is the result of a moral failing or laziness. Hopefully SPENT challenges those assumptions.

Lumosity Brain Games
This is something I've been working on for the last year. All the games on the site are based on existing neuroscience research as well of some of our own research (check out the science page). We've tried really hard to make these activities into something more fun than boring lab exercises. Hope you enjoy!

SMPTE Bar Test Pattern
Made with DIVs and CSS, this is just for some stupid fun. I used it as a holding screen for culture hole, when it went down a few days ago, thought I'd share it. You may now adjust your set!

Split Screen
A weblog dedicated to the art of the split screen and multi-layered visuals, as seen in movies, music videos, commercials and other media based on moving images. Video clips are linked to or embedded if they are available. The site isn't new but this month I began to post regularly again. (Still somehow punting on posting about Timecode, though. Soon!) More info on Split Screen.

It's A Trap
April 29th 1982, EMI - Elstree Studios, England. A frustrated Richard Marquand is not getting the performance he needs from one of his key actors, Timothy Rose. In a last ditch effort, Marquand shows Rose, playing the role of Admiral Ackbar, a number of films to help him prepare for his final scene of "Return of the Jedi"...

A silly idea taken way too far. Here's our chapter in the epic saga that is the Admiral Ackbar "It's a trap!" meme. Brilliant suggestions for other traps might spawn a follow-up video. Created by myself and nathancaswell.

I'm a Wildlife Ambassador
I'm 13 and I've been building this site that explains some of the work I do to help other kids understand wildlife and nature and habitats and how we humans are all connected to nature. The first part of the site has been just explaining myself. The next part will have a lot of wildlife information and hopefully a forum that could match up other kids' interests with ways to use those interests to benefit nature.

Viral Video Chart
We couldn't find anything that quite hit the nail on the head, so we built this, a daily chart of the most blogged about videos on YouTube, Google Video and MySpace. It's completely automated and counts both links and video embeds on several million blogs a day. There's also an archive of previous number ones. If you think it's any good, please vote for it on digg or reddit, too.
