Old Map App
An iphone application I've been developing in graduate school for exploring and comparing layers of geo-referenced historical maps alongside a modern map, currently of new york city. If the user is located within the area of the map their location is translated onto the historical maps. The website has a screencast demonstration (no sound).

Can I Marry Gay?
Gay marriage laws are getting complicated, so I created this site to help me keep track of it all. It simply looks up your location based on your IP address, and explains your local state laws related to gay marriage. Currently limited to the US.

Read The Bill
"Congress should change its rules to require that non-emergency legislation and conference reports be posted on the Internet for 72 hours before debate begins." An online petition and more, ReadTheBill.org's mission is to strengthen our democracy by making sure elected officials and citizens have the chance to read and understand legislation. The effort has been endorsed by a variety of organizations and is a project of Sunlight Foundation.

Symmetry explorer
Here's a little project I've been working on this week. It grabs photos from Flickr on any subject you like (e.g. kittens, or other fluffy things) and then presents them as pairs of mirrored halves. (If that makes no sense now, it will when you vist the site! :-) ) The results can end up quite weird and strange. :-) Here are a few of my favourites... (Thin/Fat cat) / (Fluffy dog thing) / (Seen my head(s)?)

Metafilter comments vs. Youtube comments
How much difference does $5 make? Pulls the most recent comments from Metafilter and the comments from the most viewed videos on Youtube and puts them side-by-side for comparison. I used Yahoo Pipes to generate my source data (metafilter, youtube) . Enjoy!

Yayboo - Lists you can create, vote on & add to
From "Lies Adults Tell to Children" to "Political Cliche I'm Already Tired Of" to "Best Name for the Manning-to-Tyree Catch" -- hundreds, we hope thousands, of lists -- to be voted on, added to, on whatever topic comes to mind. We have a points system going (for lists, votes) and there will be (small but interesting) prizes awarded as users' points reach serious Yaybooer levels. Soon we'll have widgets for connecting others to your lists on your site, and private lists so it won't be so hard to Group Choose where to go to dinner, or what movie to see. Yayboo away.

My credit card, the Brighter Planet Visa, launches today
In 2005 I developed a concept for a global warming credit card as a Middlebury College class project along with a fellow student and our professor. Couple of years later, we're launched, with Bank of America as our partner. Let me know what you think!

Met on the Tube
Met on the Tube is a missed connections site for people who ride London's transport system. Meet that cute guy or girl who you chatted with in the ride to work, (or find out who was gazing longingly at you while you dozed off on the ride home). You caught your train but you missed your connection! This is an excuse to combine my transit-nerdishness with people watching. Still a bit rough around some edges, but seems to be in use!

Science! - Tee shirts on the edge of forever!
I'm opening a new t-shirt site (just what the world desperatly needs). I've been doing the shirt thing for a while now, but I've decided to try a different creative approach. Instead of doing just random designs, I'm trying to focus on a single concurrent theme all on its own. In this case I chose Science!, as in the absurd and mad variety of mere 'science'. Here's hoping you find them amusing.

Up to 5 million in funding for news web site ideas, the Knight News Challenge
The Knight Foundation's News Challenge contest offers $5 million for digital media ideas that "foster community". The contest's Web site states that the digital projects have to reach people "in a specific geographic area." 26 of last year's 200 finalists won more than $12 million. Statistically, that translates into an extraordinary winning chance for innovators. The deadline for applications this year is Oct 15, 2007. Anybody worldwide can apply. More at www.newschallenge.org

Antitechnologos
From the artist: The majority of the materials that make up Antitechnologos jewelry have their intended use in a different industry: electronics, robotics, machinery, etc. The intrigue in using these sorts of materials is at once philosophical, aesthetic, and pragmatic.

I was lucky enough to get to make this site for a jewelry making friend of mine. Like the proximity to which her pieces bring a user to technological components, I tried to craft interaction that brings the user closer to the site's functionality. I hope the community enjoys!
