The Art & Life of my Aunt, Annie Truxell
My aunt, now in her 80s, is a well known painter who has lived a long and fascinating life all over the world. We call her the Queen of Bohemia: her adventures have been legendary, encompassing Greenwich Village in the 50s, London in the 60s and India in the 70s. She was friends with Franz Klein, Bill de Kooning, Truman Capote, Terry Southern, Mati Klarwein & many other wild & woolly people. For the last three months, my web designing friend Susan Lee, my brother Bill, Annie and I have all been working on this site: a catalogue raisonne of Annie's work. I wrote the text; Susan did all the hard work of scanning & design; Annie changed the painting titles every five days; Bill bought the beer. It has been a labor of love and it's wonderful to be able to share her work with the world.

Can I Feed My Dog...
We've all been there. You dropped a stick of celery on the floor, or a hard-boiled egg, or a big glob of mayonnaise. Your dog's eyes whipped open, and she made a bee-line for the mess. But wait, is it okay? Can dogs eat that? This website is intended to be a central crowd-managed database of all of the information currently available all over the Internet.

160 Proof Corsetry
I've been making custom corsets for about ten years, and selling locally for a few years, starting with friends and then getting new sales through word of mouth from previous customers. Since Buffalo's a small city and only so many people want corsets (and most have already bought one or more from me), I've opened an Etsy.

Promoting the survival and continuance of the Navajo-Churro
My neighbor raises the rare-breed, Navajo-Churro sheep here in Vermont. In addition to stewarding the breed, she also processes the wool and sells the fiber in various forms. I helped her move her site and domain, redesigned the look, and put the site on Wordpress so she can continue to manage it on her own. Navajo-Churro wool is very strong and durable which is why the Navajo native Americans used it for their famous rugs. It is great for socks too!

Phil Jern Photos
I've created a website to display and, potentially down the road, sell my photography. I'd welcome constructive feedback from any and all of you!

Modista
"I can't believe how intuitive and effective this is." Shop for apparel (men's and women's shoes, handbags, eyewear) in a totally novel way. Click on something that catches your eye, then instantly see more items that look similar. There's also some variety thrown in so that you can explore related looks. This open-ended browsing is supposed to be easy and fun! This project, based on computer vision algorithms, won the UC Berkeley Business Plan Competition this year. We're just releasing the beta now. I'd love to get some feedback on it... thanks!

The Interactive Singles Map: More accurate, more depressing!
Remember the map of singles in the US that billed New York as a fabled babe mecca, and California as a billion boy beach? I crunched some digits and now we've got one where you can change the age range, adjust for statisticksy things, and just plain have it look a little bit prettier. This map will make any 25 year old boy cry.

diddyobamablog: a postmodern video piece
Upon viewing Sean "P. Diddy" Combs's video journal entry in which he addresses Presidential candidate John McCain, I was taken with the opening lines: a simple refrain of "Diddy Obama Blog," repeated thrice. I thought it would be interesting to remove them from any context and convert them into a mantra upon which one may meditate, complete with musical accompaniment.

Standards and Pours
The short of it: Blog about drinks (started in 2007). The long of it: Basically a blog chronicling my journeys as I learn more about beverages as part of my job. It also provides an informal platform to talk about drinks and beverages that's different from our publication's usual trade format. The theory being it's approachable for both people in the industry or consumers who just want to read about drinks. Sometimes interviews, sometimes first-person accounts of industry events and the bar scene in New York (since I'm based here, but sometimes I talk to people in other parts of the country).

Sky is a Dog
I started a blog about the rescue dog we adopted 10 days ago. This is mostly for friends and family, and the rescue organization people who made it possible for us to get Sky, but members here who have dogs, or are involved in rescue or fostering might be interested. I'm recording her transition, and, as a first-time dog owner, including info that I'm finding about issues like food, health, training, and whatever I learn about along the way. Woof.

The ultimate test of microwave popcorn brands. Which is best? Which pops most?
Once-upon-a-weekend, I had questions about my microwave popcorn experience. Questions like, "Which brand of popcorn pops the most? And which brands pop best?" I started Googling for answers. None were to be found, so the popcorn test/experiment was officially, er, popped. I tried to be objective and scientific during this project, except for the taste testing, which is obviously subjective. This web page is the fruit of those labors, and the answer to your questions. (As long as they happen to be the same as mine.) Oh and I'm not employed by a popcorn company. I'm a fan of popcorn and this is an independent study performed in a good faith effort to present objectice, accurate results.

The Stuff I Like
I'm taking advantage of that "Stuff X People Like" meme. This blog has selfish intents, though. It's all about the stuff that I like. The reason for its birth? Typing "Stuff Fifth Generation Canadians From Manitoba Like" into the browser is difficult. What I hope to get out of this is some practice in writing with regularity and to formulate a response to this meme that is based upon stereotypes.

HURF DURF METAFILTER ANALYZER
I've spent the last few days conducting a comprehensive review, and constructing an annotated index, of the use of variations of the phrase "hurf durf" on Metafilter. The index covers 357 separate comments (and 10 posts) on various parts of the site, in chronological order.

3 Days Later: Jesus Christ Zombie Lord
The folks at DNR Productions and Clay Robeson Creative (that's me) have set out to create the world's first (we hope) Zombie Rock Opera. A song for song parody of Jesus Christ Superstar, 3 Days Later: Jesus Christ Zombie Lord take the "Zombie Jesus" thing to a whole new level. At this point, we've shot a teaser for what we want to produce in order to try to raise some funding to shoot the entire movie this summer. But of course, no studio in their right mind would touch this with a 100 foot pole, so we have to self finance by pan handling on the internets. So go watch the teaser. If you like it, watch the LONG version of the teaser. If we still haven't made you want to hunt us down and kill us, tell your friends, and consider giving us a dollar so we can bring this baby to life.... er back to life?

Dorkumentary
My wife and I have been working on a new improvisational comedy Internet series called Dorkumentary, and the show and website went live yesterday. Each webisode is a comedic improv inspired loosely by our lives. We've got the first episode up, called "My Day Job @ Uncle Jer's." In our first episode, my wife Adria Dawn (Nip/Tuck, Popular, etc.) interacts with the offbeat regulars at Uncle Jers - the landmark retail store in Silverlake, California. Created improvisationally in seven hours, and made by a crew of one (me!), Adria plays six different characters in a scenario loosely inspired by real events. We hope you enjoy it, and please come back for future episodes! Dorkumentary. Being a dork has never been this cool.

Hearts Atwirl
I helped my fiancee create this website to catalog her collection of vintage valentines from the early to mid 20th century. The valentines range from the cute to the inscrutable to the plain old offensive. Valentines are grouped into categories and will continue to grow as she scans more valentines from her collection.

Yayboo - Lists you can create, vote on & add to
From "Lies Adults Tell to Children" to "Political Cliche I'm Already Tired Of" to "Best Name for the Manning-to-Tyree Catch" -- hundreds, we hope thousands, of lists -- to be voted on, added to, on whatever topic comes to mind. We have a points system going (for lists, votes) and there will be (small but interesting) prizes awarded as users' points reach serious Yaybooer levels. Soon we'll have widgets for connecting others to your lists on your site, and private lists so it won't be so hard to Group Choose where to go to dinner, or what movie to see. Yayboo away.
