Videos of Truman: A Canine Retrospective

Sometimes I take videos of my dog doing weird dog things. They amuse me, so far they have a good track record of amusing others, and maybe they will amuse you, too. Enjoy! (I used to take videos of my fish, but fish are boring, and then my camera broke, and he's dead now anyway [RIP Maurice, 2008-2012], so now it's just the dog.)

Chris Packham Style

I decided to put together a little video in support of the petition against the UK badger cull. In the UK over the weekend it was National Badger Day. I decided to put together a little offering in support of the petition to stop the proposed badger cull that will wipe out around three-quarters of the rural badger population in the affected areas. For those of you unfamiliar with Chris Packham, he's a BBC wildlife presenter who fronts Autumnwatch, Springwatch, etc.

Obviously what the movement needs is a novelty rap yoked to a dying meme. NAILED IT.

"Shredding" by CPI

A performance based on the sounds of industrial shredding, accompanied by a video of things being shredded. This piece primarily consists of video of SSI shredders, but also includes Weima and Triturador shredding systems.
Music, mastering and editing by CPI, sound recorded live at Pitch Black. All video sources are promotional material from the respective companies.

Dedicated to GX Jupitter-Larsen, who fostered an appreciation for the sounds of destruction in a generations of kids.

If you are not in to the noise I recommend muting the video and accompanying it with your favourite instrumental music.

A Poem From Us

Funded by a $1,000 grant from the Chicago Awesome Foundation, A Poem From Us is kicking off National Poetry Month by inviting people to share a favorite poem via YouTube or Vimeo. The one rule for the project: the poem you read cannot be your own. There are certain poems I simply love reading out loud. Sometimes, it's the poem itself; other times, it's simply the sequence of words, and the pleasure of sounding out each phrase.

I've had a longstanding interest in finding ways to combine poetry and technology. While poetry readings and open mic nights are the main way we hear poems nowadays, sharing poems via
YouTube/Vimeo seems like the next natural progression.

It's worth noting that I view this project as an informal endeavor: though people are "reading" poems, it's less about recitation and more about sharing a favorite poem with others that may not be familiar with it.

In addition to the online component, the project is also giving away free stickers: each sticker has the project URL and a custom QR code. When the QR code is scanned, a random video from the website is played on the user's mobile device.

My friends and I enjoy sharing videos we like on facebook and stumbleupon but wanted something more self-contained, so decided to build a website, inspired by sites like devour and bestofyoutube. Whilst the idea may not be original, I think that the quality and range of what we cover makes us stand out. As well as including new finds the site aims to archive interesting videos, with the aim of being the most comprehensive collection of what we like online (+ with the hope that other people will find the site useful as well).
We tend to feature a wide range of stuff but generally avoid adverts, videos of kittens or people falling over. Many thanks to the MeFites who have posted links to videos that have been put on the site.

C+C welcome as well as suggestions for videos that should be added.

The Sleeping Robot

An attempt at a short film version of a story I wrote for a class on Critical Perspectives in Children's Literature. I have just completed a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and for one of my classes we wrote alternative versions of fairy tales endeavoring to reflect different perspectives and values within the context of familiar stories. I enjoyed writing and illustrating my story (a version of Sleeping Beauty) and over spring break (when I really should have been completing schoolwork or job applications) I decided to see if I could make a Claymation video with no film experience and limited equipment. I enjoyed making the video (although it was frustrating as my actors kept falling over) and wanted to share it with people other than my close friends and family to see if it resonated with anyone and to get some feedback. Although it is very amateurish (because, um, I am an amateur) I think that it develops and improves as it continues (I completed the scenes in order so that I could see how my technique, such as it was, developed). I have been tossing around the idea of working on a second film reinterpreting Rapunzel called The Lonely Enchantress.

If anyone is interested I’m happy to provide a lengthy analysis of why I made the changes I did and what I hoped to accomplish through them (and my regrets e.g. if you’re going to make a Claymation video where the first half is basically just people hugging don’t make one of your main characters yellow) but I would imagine the video is sufficient for now. Thank you so much for any feedback/suggestions you’d be willing to give!

Here is my video offering solutions to the global food crisis as part of a submission for the international Thought For Food challenge. Possible NSFW if your boss can't abide a male nipple. The competition is sponsored by Syngenta, who are a big bad pesticide company, but if the video gets enough views then they will pay for us to go to the One Young World conference in Zurich, where we would hopefully spread a little more good around.

Please help mefites!

Please comment, question, discuss, all opinions welcome.

Automagically create audio/video playlists of upcoming shows & whatever else. Basically, a mashup of eventful.com and youtube that creates playlists so you can see/here what artists are coming (plus a simple text search). It's far from perfect, but I need to work on other stuff.

Eventually I'd like to let people up/downvote and submit videos, so it only shows good/relevant ones. And I'd like to use the eventful user api to let people say that they're attending events. Other thoughts?

SLAMVYT - Single Link Ambient Music Video YouTube. While my recording studio was in disarray, I decided to experiment with some video using my new notebook (yay!). The music is from my first RPM Challenge album, way back in 2007.

Please to enjoy.
