My second young adult novel, Wanderlove, is available from Random House/Delacorte Press today. Wanderlove takes place in Central America (Guatemala and Belize, specifically). It's about travel, and art, and jungle beasties, and an 18-year-old girl resdiscovering the parts of herself she thought she'd lost. It's also illustrated -- by me! I hope you'll check it out. In addition, I've started a Tumblr at www.wanderlove.com, where participants can share photos of their favorite places. Fun fact: Wanderlove is Book 2 in this Ask Metafilter question :)

Like Mandarin

My debut young adult novel, Like Mandarin, will be released by Random House Tuesday! My new website just went live -- the above links to the Like Mandarin page. Every object in the background is significant in the book. It's is for older teens, 14+, but I think it's for adults, too. They say you should write the stories you want to read, and that's what I tried to do -- this book contains so much of my heart. It's about the Wyoming badlands, and bad girls, and the crazy-making wildwinds, and how we all long to be important to somebody. Thanks to Metafilter for packing my procrastination breaks with color, and the AskMe crowd for helping compile my playlists for every book I write -- including Like Mandarin ("book 1").
