The earliest when

A short list highlighting sexist disparities in the numbers of winners in various awards. "This is a short list of earliests. The earliest it can be when as many women as men have won Best Director at the Oscars is 2111. The earliest it can be when as many women as men have won the Nobel Prize for Literature is 2104. The earliest it can be when..." [more inside]

Wired's Star Trek's 100 Crew Members Ranked (With links)

Wired thought they would rile people up by ranking Star Trek characters. But, they just provided a list. No links with context or further info. So I've done that. Mainly I wanted to fiddle with a heroku app and learn Bootstrap. Please enjoy my really cruddy looking "app." I want to continue to work on it until it looks nice. Most of the links work. I may have missed one or two. It's an ongoing journey.

The hats of your mortal enemies, turned inside-out and used as flowerpots

A Tumblr with one list a day, almost completely unburdened by truth or common sense. Some examples: nine notable letters and marks; seven guests not to invite to your party; seven lesser-known pirate hoards; three light meals; the seven great societies of time travellers; Instructions for Those Who Wish To Take the Path Through the City and Emerge Unscathed on the Other Side; four lesser-known English Explorers of the Early Victorian Period; six proposals for a transient architecture.

The Year in Los Angeles Historic Preservation

Each year since 2012, we've compiled a survey of the past year's historic preservation gains, losses and the bittersweet things that teeter in between. Today we released 22 for 2015, where you'll find all our favorite funiculars, cafeterias, neon signs, giant hot dogs, celebrity pet hospitals, tiki bar fish friends and so much more. If you dig old L.A., stop by and see if your favorite place made the list.

Analog film exhibitors list

A list of exhibitors who intentionally show films on film (35mm, 16mm, whathaveyou) to the public — cinemas, festivals, museums, and itinerant groups. It started out as a news digest looking at (1) cinemas that are switching to digital technology and (2) cinemas that are choosing to preserve analog film exhibition in some form, but I kept finding so many interesting little pro-analog cinema projects that I had to make a list of them. Esotouric's Los Angeles Historic Preservation "25 for 2012"

From Esotouric, the offbeat Los Angeles tour company, here's a very opinionated list of the past year's most notable historic preservation gains, losses... and those bittersweet moments that hover somewhere in the middle and keep us up nights.

Listje - Quick, easy-to-use, text entry list app

I put this project together because I was really frustrated with having to make shopping lists by entering items one by one. With Listje, you can type in a plaintext list with many rows (or paste it in from a document). The list will be converted to an interactive checklist, and there's save functionality so you can retrieve it later if you like, perhaps from your phone, via the URL. A simple tap checks off items, and you can easily hide them from the view. [more inside]
