Cold Cat (animated short)

A freezing cat seeks the warmth of a woman, but ends up having to rely on city infrastructure. Along the way, there's a bit of Gangnam Style, a hot-tub scene of sorts, and a very brief bedroom dalliance. This is "episode 2" of Franklin the Ladies' Cat, a series of stand-alone shorts I'm working on. The first short is here. If you enjoy these, please help me spread the word. I finished an animated comedy short this summer, about a lovesick cat, which I am now turning into a YouTube series. Franklin the Ladies' Cat combines animation with live action, and episode 1 is up! Hope you'll help me spread the word if you like it. Franklin is an enterprising cat looking for love in the big city. Despite remarkable tenacity and imagination, his overtures to human women go largely unnoticed -- though that's not how Franklin tells it! As interview shots give way to on-the-street documentary footage, his confident embellishments are revealed to be out of sync with reality.

R Money Music Video

I made a music video envisioning Mitt Romney as a rapper named R Money who likes to rap about how wealthy he is. There is an interesting synchronicity between some aspects of hip hop culture and wealthy media figures like Donald Trump and Mitt Romney that make for a funny juxtaposition, I think. I started the project in early March inspired by a post by the blogger BooMan. For the music I used a sample from the Joan Armatrading song, I'm Lucky, that I found crate digging a couple of years ago. I had the basic beat, but got a musician friend of mine come help me do some additional instrumentation and work on the song structure. He also performed the vocals, with myself doing the backup parts. The other obvious sample in the song is from Wu-Tang's C.R.E.A.M. track off their first album. Once I had the song more or less there I started on the music video. I used After Effects to composite everything and Illustrator and Photoshop to prep artwork. I started with animating Mitt's head, cutting out different photographs of his mouth for the phonemes. Once that was done I got a different friend to come out to my garage where I filmed him dancing around in a suit in front of a greenscreen. Stylistically, I was going for an over-the-top kind of music video feel with cartoonish elements to enhance its satirical nature, all while attempting to retain my voice as a filmmaker. Scoobert and Barb's Inconsequential Adventures Part 3

This is the third part in an on-going cartoon series that I've been making that follows the wacky lives of two characters who are constantly seeking "the good life". The animation technique is an amalgam of After Effects and a homebrew Nintendo DS program called Animanatee. Tell me what you think! (Over a year ago I posted the first part of the cartoon, but I feel I've improved quite a bit, technically and the amount of time spent on this is far more than a blog post... hopefully that doesn't get any fannies in a twist)

John Roderick Plays a Potluck

This winter, we invited John Roderick of Seattle band The Long Winters and the Roderick on the Line podcast over for a potluck dinner. He played a few songs, told some stories, and ate all of the food. A few of those moments have been put together into a video collection called "More Than Shapes," named for a song and a story from that evening. We rigged up the house with professional recording equipment and cameras, and captured what ended up being a pretty unforgettable evening of songs and stories; a sort of indie-rock VH-1 Storytellers. Roderick is a well-known Seattle musician and raconteur. In addition he writes a regular column for The Seattle Weekly, and has most recently been a touring companion for John Hodgman and Jonathan Coulton.

Droidius: 1945 is a short, vertical shooter with old-school graphics and a kickin' rad soundtrack to match. Only a daring ace with skills to match can defeat Hitler and the Nazi Menace.
