It's the first time in recorded history that cats and memes will actually increase productivity. Meant for the desktop - it certainly works on mobile but the experience isn't so hot.

This project is an outgrowth of my work as a volunteer photographer at the shelter, where I take photos for their website to help animals get adopted. The LA/SPCA gave approval for the blog, but I am solely responsible for its content.

A freezing cat seeks the warmth of a woman, but ends up having to rely on city infrastructure. Along the way, there's a bit of Gangnam Style, a hot-tub scene of sorts, and a very brief bedroom dalliance. This is "episode 2" of Franklin the Ladies' Cat, a series of stand-alone shorts I'm working on. The first short is here. If you enjoy these, please help me spread the word. I finished an animated comedy short this summer, about a lovesick cat, which I am now turning into a YouTube series. Franklin the Ladies' Cat combines animation with live action, and episode 1 is up! Hope you'll help me spread the word if you like it. Franklin is an enterprising cat looking for love in the big city. Despite remarkable tenacity and imagination, his overtures to human women go largely unnoticed -- though that's not how Franklin tells it! As interview shots give way to on-the-street documentary footage, his confident embellishments are revealed to be out of sync with reality.

A Stray in the Woods

A collaborative comic adventure, in which you are a cat. After each update, I take suggestions for what Cat should do — Investigate an object? Move into another room? Eat something off the floor? Then I read through all of the suggestions that have been submitted and select one as the basis for the next page. The comic updates about once per weekday, and is hosted on Tumblr. You do not, however, need a Tumblr account to participate, as anyone can issue "commands" anonymously. "A Stray in the Woods" is an experiment for me, in that it's very different from the kinds of comics I usually draw and write. However, although reader commands will ultimately dictate the path of the story, I have a general plot in mind, and I plan to see it through until the end.

I made an Android app for the popular Meow Reader website. Swipe your way through our gallery of reading cats. Be amazed by their beauty and their solid grasp of the written word. These cats are the antithesis of LOLcats, educated, refined bookworms with a curiosity that could kill. New photos are automatically added to the app weekly. The app is free and is also ad-free. Enjoy. Technical note: I built the app using HTML5 and PhoneGap. I'm also blogging about how I built it.

Cats on Macs

Just what it sounds like: This is a site devoted to pictures of cats (and kitties, kittens, kittehs, ketselehs, etc...) on Macs (and associated hardware). I think null terminated probably started pulling together his cats in Christmas trees site right around the time I finally got around to creating this. Yay synchronicity! But I actually got the idea for Cats on Macs back in 2009, when one of my coworkers sent around a photo of his parents' new kitten, Baby, lounging on a lime iMac. I Googled "cats on Macs," and at the time, the Cats love Macs Flickr pool wasn't that big, and it seemed like there were only a few scattered collections of cat-on-Mac photos. I bought the domain that September—and sat on it for a year. Finally, on Black Friday, I decided to sit down, bang out a CSS template for Blosxom, and get Cats on Macs out into the world. It was done that afternoon. This project follows in the footsteps of such fine MeFite cat sites as cortex's Look At This Cat! and Cobbler's Random Kitten Generator. It is in no way affiliated with Apple, and I'm definitely not shilling for them—I just think cats on Macs are cute! Anyway, I know, I know: Less talk, more cats. I welcome your cat submissions!

There Are No Cats In This Book - a reading and demonstration by the author, Viviane Schwarz, filmed by me. Last year I did soundtrack and editing for a video reading of There Are Cats In This Book by Viviane Schwarz. Recently I made the video reading for the sequel There Are No Cats In This Book (which is a bit of a lie - actually there are lots of cats, especially at the end). (Bonus video - I also took my camera to the book's launch) (And I seem to prefer the term "filmed", despite the fact that there's no film involved whatsoever.)

A shared calendar for pet events

A community calendar to help people coordinate pet-events (dog shows, pet fairs, coral frag-swaps, etc) in their area. After realizing that we were always missing pet fairs by a week or so, my wife and I decided to put together a calendar to keep track of the events in our area. The thought occurred that others might find something like this useful as well, so we made one that was public.

Look At This Cat!

I made Look At This Cat because I figured there are a lot of cats out there that people should look at. And I don't see why that has to involve like crazy Web 2.0 crap when all you really need is some pictures of cats and the ability to say to yourself "hey, look at that, that is one great cat right there". Cat submissions more than welcome. Suggestions and feedback, likewise. And yes, that is good-old-fashioned courier, and no that is not an accident, and that should probably sum up the general design aesthetic of the whole thing pretty succinctly. (The fact that I built this one day after getting a couple of kittens is pretty definitely a coincidence.)
