QuarterDown
QuarterDown is a thoughtful approach to video game journalism (although, you can argue whether or not a bunch of amateurs writing in their free time counts as journalism). See The Trouble With Game Reviews for an in-depth look at some of the ideas we based the site on. We're trying very hard to bring a sense of intelligent discourse to a subject that is too often flooded by mindless hype.

Are you covering any particular kind of game, or excluding any, in particular? (Console v. PC, MMO, casual, Facebook, iPhone, whatever?) Are you interested in getting game company PR contacts at all?

Dude, just the fact that you have the balls to link to the "Trouble With Game Reviews" article and still have reviews on your site is enough for me. Consider the readership +1.

I may spend some more time with this, but my initial impression is that you're not really living up to your aspirations. This game site is a whole lot like the Standard Model game site.

I agree with the criticisms in "The Trouble With Game Reviews," which makes it disappointing and confusing that they seem to apply with some strength to the site where that essay is posted.

@restless_nomad

We cover anything game-related. The editors have a wide variety of interests, so this results in quite a span of different topics. For example, I wrote an article about a Japanese video game meme which I think falls outside the normal bounds of websites of this kind. And yes, we're definitely interested in PR contacts. We're going for slow, natural growth and I'm hoping that contacts will develop naturally over the course of things. Like I said though, amateurs writing in their free time.

We're still working out exactly what we think and what we're shooting for. We've had some big ideas, but it's sometimes hard to get everyone on the same page. I think this will improve with time. This is part of the reason why I posted this here. I want to hear what people think! If you have any specific comments or criticisms I'll definitely be relating them to the rest of the editors. Which reviews do you think come up short? Are there any that fulfilled your expectations? How can we get better?
