Threadcakes: Threadless Designs + Cake Batter Some of you may be unfamiliar with Threadless.com: a t-shirt site where artists submit their designs and those best voted on are printed. I've launched (the second iteration of) a fun contest I call Threadcakes, where participants bake their designs into fun cakes.
Something about the contest really strikes me as fun: I like the idea of transforming two-dimensional art into three-dimensional sculpture. Threadless' designs are so varied that the subject matter is *complete* different from entry to entry, and people's interpretations of the different designs are simply fascinating, but perhaps what's most interesting of all is just how much time people are willing to put into such an endeavor. Sure, we offer some pretty cool prizes, but we're receiving dozens of entries and most of these entries are just for fun--at 2-5 hours a pop, minimum. (Some have reported 15-20 hours per entry.)
The contest runs for another 3 weeks, if you're interested in pitting your pastry skills against some of these entrants.
OK, this is the shirt I was wearing Friday when I made jam AND it's the first that popped to mind before I even clicked through to this site. Love it. posted by veggieboy at 3:37 PM on July 5
