Battle for Terra

For the last five years, I have been producing a 3D independent CG-animated film called "Battle for Terra." We have received some good reviews so far, and I'm pretty happy with our trailer. The film will finally be released in the US on Friday May 1st, and I hope you check it out.

Battle for Terra is a PG science fiction action adventure with a slightly more serious tone than most American animation. The film will be released in both stereoscopic 3D and traditional 2D, but I highly recommend seeing it in 3D for the best experience. On a side note, making an independent film of this scale has been an enormous undertaking, and I am incredibly proud of the hundreds of people who have worked on it over the years. As with all independent film, we make do with a much smaller production and advertising budget, and we rely even more on the support of the audience to continue doing what we do.

When I first starting reading this, it seemed like it was just some indie short film. It took me more than a moment to realize that this was the same major motion picture I'd just seen the trailer for a few days ago. Who knew that Mefi had Hollywood glitz in its roster? :P

I'm for it as long as it delivers a completely unrealistic ending where the peace-loving, not-technology-obsessed race somehow avoids annihilation.

nanojath, hard to really think in terms of "realistic" when discussing far future science-fiction involving alien species, terraforming, inter-stellar travel, etc. But I do think that the ending is realistic and earned within the world of the film. That said, I'm sure people will have problems with the film. That tends to be the nature of most films.

kcalder, did this movie used to have a different title at some point? The animation in the trailer reminds me of a teaser I saw a year or two ago, but I can't put my finger on it.

It used to just be called "Terra". It was based on a short film with the same title.

I saw this last October at the Heartland Film Festival (when it was still called "Terra") and enjoyed it immensely. Great work, kcalder, and how cool to learn that a MeFite was a producer! Wonderful to see that it's getting the wide release it deserves.

aw man, saw that trailer on TV and was like "boy I wish I were 12 again!" All we had was ExoSquad where we had to imagine that things were turning around in 3d. :P

FWIW, I saw the trailer this past w/e in the theaters prior to this post. It looks completely kick ass and went immediately to the top of my Must See List. Kudos, kcalder.
