This is great! (although I wish that the later diagrams were a 2D sketch instead of the 3D model, which looks a little mismatched with the rest of the graphics)

Very cool! I agree with the above comment though.

Did you just draw the screws in Illustrator, or did you model them?

This is pretty neat, but also a little unnerving at the same time. Might have to do with the 3D baby model. And all those screws.

I originally planned on using the Illustrate plugin in 3dsmax to create line-drawings from the 3D model, but I couldn't get it to work. So I went with black-and-white renderings and messed with the image attributes in photoshop to make them look as "drawing-like" as possible. I'm not a pro at any of this; I was mostly just using trial and error.

They look pretty good to me! I wonder if it would have been possible to get a similar result by modeling in Sketchup, getting a hidden line render, and then tracing in Illustrator.
